Piano
Originally from Ireland, Serena Sheane started teaching piano on a freelance basis in September 2019. The ages and standard of her pupils have ranged from beginner to Grade 6 to date. She is currently studying a Masters in Music Education and Performance in the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The twenty-five-year-old pianist is specialising in Collaborative Piano (75% Accompaniment, 25% Solo Playing (approximately)) under the tutelage of Deniz Gelenbe. Serena divides her time between Teaching and Performing, participating in theoretical lectures organised by her programme, accompanying voice and woodwind students within the conservatoire and teaching piano online. She also works in the Jerwood Music Library alongside her studies. Recent performance/college competition appearances include the Keyboard and Voice Beethoven Festival, the TL Soloist Competition, New Lights Contemporary Music Festival and the English Song Competition. In addition, she recently ran an eight-week Toddler Music Programme in Tower Hamlets and is planning to organise classes in more venues during the coming months.
Serena completed the ISP Advanced Programme (a postgraduate course dedicated primarily to piano performance) at the aforementioned conservatoire under the tutelage of Mikhail Kazakevich in July 2021. Additional qualifications achieved alongside this course include CoachBright Training, an EduCare Course in Child Protection and Group Music Making Course affiliated by Future Learn. Serena was also awarded First Class Honours in her Bachelor of Music degree from the CIT Cork School of Music in June 2020. Specialisms in this multi-faceted programme included Classroom Pedagogy, Piano and Flute Performance, Instrumental Teaching, Conducting, Music History and Repertory Studies.
A member of EPTA UK and the Independent Society of Musicians, Serena is looking forward to starting her new role in Orpington Music Studio. She is eager to give her students a well-rounded education using a distinctive blend of activities, pieces and laughter in every lesson. Serena loves playing the piano and hopes she can inspire her students to do the same!
